For CFOs, it signals a fundamental shift: ESG data are now an integral part of the management report &#8211; audited, standardised, and comparable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is no longer greenwashing. The CSRD compels companies to measure and report their sustainability performance with the same discipline they apply to financial performance. For CFOs who have not yet prepared, time is running short.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin-top:32px;margin-bottom:16px;\">Who is affected &#8211; and when<\/h2>\n<p>The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is being rolled out in phases. Starting with the 2024 financial year, <strong>large capital-market-oriented companies<\/strong> with more than 500 employees must publish sustainability reports. From 2025, all large limited liability companies fall under the directive &#8211; defined as meeting at least two of the following three criteria: more than 250 employees, annual turnover exceeding \u20ac50 million, or total assets exceeding \u20ac25 million. From 2026, listed SMEs are also included.<\/p>\n<p>In Germany, this affects an estimated <strong>15,000 companies<\/strong> &#8211; roughly ten times as many as under the previous EU CSR Directive. This includes emissions, water consumption, working conditions in the supply chain, and biodiversity impacts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Financial Materiality:<\/strong> Which sustainability-related risks and opportunities affect the company\u2019s financial performance? These include physical climate-related risks, regulatory compliance costs, reputational risks, and market opportunities arising from sustainable products.<\/p>\n<p>A topic must be reported if it is material under at least one of these two perspectives.
